Introduction for Marilisa
Call me Mar. How's that for a pithy opener? Hey, it worked for Melville's "Moby Dick," right? Pronounced "mare"--it's short for Marilisa (said like "Mary Lisa") Yes, it's unusual and yes, it's my real name, invented by my grandmother. My married surname is unique too, at least stateside: Sachteleben. In the old country--Germany--it's more common, I'm told. I like to think of myself as unique, too (don't we all?)
Starting with the fact that I've been happily married to the same guy for almost 28 years. We're told longevity like that's rare these days. My occupation is off the beaten path--an self-made hybrid of teaching and freelancing. Before kids, I taught general and special education, then took time off to raise and homeschool our four children. In 1993, that was VERY different! Returning to the job scene, I couldn't find a full-time teaching position. So I turned my hand to writing articles on education, food, parenting, holidays, crafts, religion, health and blogging them. I'm the archetype manic blogger, with 55 niche sites at present! What began as a freelancing experiment in 2005 has grown to sustainable income that allowed me to write full-time in 2010.
