Look Out When Blowing Bubbles Here

I'm beginning to worry about all the quotes people are making here from that might be considered duplicate content. Even though folks are quoting it to critique it, posts are still being quoted in their entirety. I would be very careful about this. I rarely see the “authors” credited for their work and I think some of you would be doing the site a favor to remove the quoted material and paraphrase or just critique. I'd hate to see this site penalized because of the spun and plagiarized posts being brought into posts here.

I don't think we will be building ourselves up by tearing down other sites or their policies – especially if that involves copying material from them in posts here. Instead of leaving that copied material in your posts to get you into trouble when you want to get paid here, why not remove it and satirize it instead? Instead of trying to demonstrate how dumb these cheaters are, show how smart you are when you cleverly write your of one of their posts?

I can't recall coming across any such posts here at Persona Paper, but I agree with your thinking. Duplicate posting of another's words without giving appropriate credit to the author is plagiarizing, no matter then intent of the use.

Kasman wrote on October 12, 2014, 2:05 PM

Yes, I saw the latest one too. Perhaps a timely reminder to read the rules would help.

BarbRad wrote on October 12, 2014, 2:15 PM

I have seen at least two so far, but I don't want to call out the authors. You are likely to come across them.

BarbRad wrote on October 12, 2014, 2:16 PM

I was hoping this post would be it.

alexdg1 wrote on October 12, 2014, 2:22 PM

I'm not sure if I have read any of those either....I don't have that many Persona Paper connections, so any posts about Bubblews or problems with Bubblews seem to be of the non-cross-posting variety.

poddys wrote on October 12, 2014, 3:17 PM

My concern is more that so many posts here focus on Bubblews, the good, the bad and the ugly. Time to write about more things, positive things, and to find some material that will drive traffic here.
So far I haven't succeeded, but trying to come up with something.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on October 12, 2014, 3:17 PM

Because so many of us early members of Persona Paper (and probably many future ones as well) are or were members of Bubblews and most of us have some degree of discontent with the site, Bubblews is a popular topic to both read and write about here. Misery does love company. But we need to be careful not to overdo it. Writing to our internal readers is good, and a big part of what Persona Paper is all about. But if the site is going to grow, prosper, and make money, we need external views. We should focus on spending part of our time writing good evergreen content. Good SEO topics will bring in traffic from search engines. If that's not your thing, those cute, feel good, inspiring personal posts that make everybody go "Aww" and hit the share buttons are always good.

I don't read or write at Bubble so can't comment..

Kasman wrote on October 12, 2014, 3:47 PM

You make a good point. We really need to get away from the position of being 'Bubble Bashers' and develop our own direction and style. We don't want to gain a reputation for being 'that site which always talks about Bubble Ooze'.

LoudMan wrote on October 12, 2014, 3:58 PM

Charges of plagiarism are serious business, indeed. I hope we can just avoid them, too. Only one way, really.

BarbRad wrote on October 12, 2014, 5:35 PM

I guess I should be commenting to those who made the posts if they don't see this. I think that's what I'm supposed to do after reading again about the site's policies.

BarbRad wrote on October 12, 2014, 5:36 PM

I agree. I think some are just afraid of venting over there.

BarbRad wrote on October 12, 2014, 5:37 PM

You mean like those Guiness writes?

BarbRad wrote on October 12, 2014, 5:37 PM

But you just did.

BarbRad wrote on October 12, 2014, 5:39 PM

I'm sure that the people who wrote those posts are unaware that copying those posts for the purpose of bashing them could also be called a form of plagiarism.

Ellis wrote on October 12, 2014, 5:54 PM

Touche...lol

SLGarcia wrote on October 12, 2014, 6:28 PM

I agree with all of you. I have commented on a couple or so of those posts and I don't believe I should have.

bestwriter wrote on October 12, 2014, 9:20 PM

This is a nice reminder to those who have done it and that includes me. That quote has been deleted. I thought anything in quotes was allowed. It is better to be safe than sorry.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on October 12, 2014, 9:58 PM

This is Guiness the Cat. Well, all those cute cat pictures/videos/posts that go viral have to start with a cat, don't they?

BarbRad wrote on October 12, 2014, 10:38 PM

I'm glad you got the message. I know you do your best to follow the rules. Much better safe than sorry.

bestwriter wrote on October 12, 2014, 11:11 PM

You did respond to one of my mine that had a quote I thought quotes were allowed but I have deleted that quote. You are now safe. :)

bestwriter wrote on October 12, 2014, 11:48 PM

I am glad atleast some of my true friends saw it. I am peeved more because while this woman from Florida continues to be there despite regularly breaking rules - plagiarism and what have you too, they deleted my account after I had written almost 700 posts, with 16000 likes just because there were fewer characters in my very first post. They sent me a warning and a warning is so that mistakes are not repeated. I explained to them that I had used a word count software from the Net. Those days they did not have a word count. Now tell me. Am I not justified in calling this site BULL.... and blatantly showing partiality ? You are right. I am a law abiding citizen not just in the virtual world but in my real world too.

BarbRad wrote on October 13, 2014, 12:14 AM

I'm certainly not going to defend their policies. It would seem you were treated unfairly. But now you are here and the atmosphere is so much better for working here.

bestwriter wrote on October 13, 2014, 12:21 AM

My activity here proves that I am here for keeps emoticon  I hope and pray nothing like what we see there happens here.

AliCanary wrote on October 13, 2014, 2:54 AM

That's a good idea! We could make up our own "spun content", like foolish madras is down the quail for the matter instead of stultifying bananas.

BarbRad wrote on October 13, 2014, 2:06 PM

But only as part of a post on what not to do. Otherwise, Google might think that's how we write here. Satires should be short and sweet.

AliCanary wrote on October 13, 2014, 5:12 PM

As strangely tempting as writing a whole post that way is, I will restrict such antics to my comment.

inertia4 wrote on October 14, 2014, 9:54 PM

BarbRad I don't think it's fair to bash any other site here or anywhere for that matter. They have their ways of doing things and Persona Paper has theirs. I never copy anything from another site to post here. I might mention some similar things from time to time. But they were posts I had mdd there. I never copy and paste an entire article I wrote there here. No need. We can write the same post in different words. Different titles as well. But to me that is also a waste of time.

momathome wrote on October 20, 2014, 2:42 PM

I must have missed those posts, but I'm sure that if they were reported or if elitecodex or MaeLou ran onto them they took care of it. That is one of the really good things about Persona Paper, plagiarism is taken care of swiftly. And whether it be a "quote" or an entire post, plagiarism is plagiarism.

paigea wrote on October 20, 2014, 9:47 PM

I agree. I come here to read about other things, not to read about that other site good or bad. I continue to write there, but I don't want to read about it when I'm not there.

BarbRad wrote on October 21, 2014, 3:47 AM

The reason these posts had been posted here was not to duplicate content but to demonstrate how bad a certain spun post found on the other site was. It was posted to critique it.

BarbRad wrote on October 21, 2014, 3:48 AM

The author who quoted those posts has already taken care of deleting the quotes.
