Is Anyone Here Planning on Writing for the NaNoWriMo this Coming November?

I'm curious whether anyone here is planning on writing for NaNoWriMo this coming November? For those not familiar with this, it stands for National Novel Writing Month and it takes place every November. They have a web site where you can sign up and upload your words to qualify. The goal is to write 50,000 words in a month's time. The idea is to simply write, write and continue writing rather than editing as you go. It is not expected that you'll have a novel ready for publication at that time, in fact many people will continue to work on the same novel for several years before it's ready to be published.

I have done this event several times over the past years. I did my best writing a novel the first time, although I think I only made it about half way on the word count. For the past two years I was encouraged by a friend on another writing site to be a NaNoRebel. To be a Rebel for this event means that anything you write can qualify toward your 50,000 words. On this particular website that I met this person on, and it's not a paying writing site but rather more of a better your craft writing site, they have challenges during the month of October to spearhead people's thinking to get them ready to write their novels providing outlines to follow and challenges to complete.

One thing that most of us do on that writing site is review the writings of other members. I was able to count my reviews toward my total word count, but I didn't stop there. I also counted any emails that I wrote, and all the posts written on bubblews during that month. If I choose to do it again this year, I would consider counting any posts written here also, if I have time to do all of that during the month.

So, have any of you ever done Nano before and if so did you work on a novel or were you a rebel too? Whether you've ever done this before, might you consider doing it this year? At this point I'm not planning on doing this again just yet, but I may decide the night before especially if snow is expected soon.

As I haven't even a short story in me, I've only participated once in NaNoWriMo, but dropped out very early. I am, however, interested in the NaNoRebel and will consider that after finding the site. I appreciate you sharing this information as I've not run across even a mention of it before.

If you can't find the forum on the site for the rebels, and there are several of them, but I only checked them out a couple of times and then not again, for lack of time. But, if you can't find any of that, my friend Ruwth on bubblews would probably have the links for you if you'd want to visit her there. I think she may be doing it again this year, but not 100% sure.

Thank you so much for writing this, Marsha! I had no idea about NaNoRebels, so I went and looked it up. I also discovered in the process, that the rules have changed to allow a writer to continue a work that was previously started. I was thinking I might not do NaNo this year after all, but I am rethinking that in light of the info I just gleaned :D

I signed up once for NaNoWriMo once and dropped out very early on. I do not have a novel in me. Maybe a short story or a children's story about FASD. I might do better at the NaNorebel site. Thanks for the info.

I've decided not to do this for 2014, to many other irons in the fire, which is mostly related to working outside the home right now.
