Homemade Halloween Decoration - Jack-o-lantern Milk Cartons!

Last night we started decorating for Halloween! Yes I know it's still almost a month away, but most of my decorations count as "Fall" decor too :) Plus my neighbors all decorated way earlier than I did so... I think I'm justified in feeling the urge to decorate. We don't have a lot of decorations, and they are indoor only right now, but they put us in the spirit of the season and my toddler (L) loves to see them all month.

As part of my ongoing effort to expand my horizons AND entertain L, I googled DIY Halloween decorations. The Jack-O-Lantern Milk Jugs was the first one I found and I just knew that was it! I noticed most people were using black marker or pen to decorate their milk jug, but I wanted something easier for L, so I pre-cut out shapes from black paper and let her help me glue them on. That's it! Super simple. I shined a flashlight on the top of each for the picture, but I want to find some small battery operated lights to put inside so I can set this out with my decor. Online I saw some people putting strands of lights inside, but I just wanted one simple light.

For older kids, markers would probably be more fun so they could draw whatever they wanted. My milk jug was smaller than the ones I saw online and had a dent in the middle. I cut my shapes to fit so that my daughter wouldn't have to worry about cutting them too big.

This is just our first of many Halloween / Fall crafts! I will be sure to share the next one we try :)

These are cute and serve two purposes in one -- providing both light and holiday decor.

Those are very cute. Something I could do with my great nephew!

Yep and it's very easy! Save your next few empty milk cartons :)

Yep I wanted a craft that could be used as decor since we don't have a lot. I'm still googling to find more - we got a whole month to decorate :)

Yikes. Halloween is less than 24 days away....then Thanksgiving....then Hannukah/Christmas/New Year's!

They are pretty cute. I bet all the kids around the neighborhood like them.

I love this idea! It upcycling, and it's a far easier craft for little kids than carving a pumpkin. Plus the milk jugs are still usable afterwards - bonus!

I must save milk jugs and let my grandkids do this. My 5 yr old grandson loves to draw and create so this is just what he will love.

What a cute idea. I think that this is going to be something that my family tries out this year. We are always looking for new and fun crafty projects and this one is going to make their day. Seeing as there are only 13 days until Halloween this is going to have to be done this weekend. Time to start drinking more milk :)
