Flag and Cannon Double Exposure

I tried to figure out how to do the flag and graves with the flag in color and the rest black and white and couldn't. Then I got to playing around with this couple of photos. Personally, I like the darker version better because it sorta looks like the flag is in color and the rest not, even though that isn't actually the case. Here is the bigger version of the shot.

Here is the brighter colored version of the shot. It has a certain appeal as well. I'm not sure why I like the darker version better.

I like both elements of the shot. I don't have a version of the cannon smaller. That might work better. Oh well, it's still a nice effect.

Which version do y'all like best? Why do you prefer that shot?

The top one is better. The bottom looks like it's taken from an x-files episode.

LOL, well X-Files was famous. I'd gladly let a TV show use one of my photos.

I like the darker version, but I think the flag shouldn't be right over the mouth of the cannon. It makes it look like the cannon is about to shot the flag.

Brilliant! This is a great match and the creases in the flag blend in well with the fatigued metal of the cannon...

I prefer the darker one because the cannon appears to be old and the yellowish coloring on the white stripes of the flag makes it appear old too.

I don't know how to combine photos unless they are the same size and that's where everything ended up.

Thank you. I'm glad you like this double exposure.

That is true. I think the other one is just too bright for me.
