Katydid or Katy didn't?

I love katydids! Not the way they look, though. Oh my heck, no. They resemble very large grasshoppers that were laying on their sides in the middle of the freeway and got run over by a Mack truck!

Truth be told, they're actually quite ugly. But, I can overlook their looks because I love the way they sing. On an early fall night like tonight, they produce an orchestra of sound that swells out from the bushes and trees.

It doesn't sound quite like a chirp-- like crickets make -- and it doesn't sound quite like the buzz of bees. It's a chirpy, ringing tone that sounds only like a katydid.

Whether or not katydid or didn't make sounds at your place tonight, I hope one of these first fall nights, you'll have the opportunity to hear her sing again.

We don't have katydids here in the UK - the only singing we hear at night is the drunks coming out of the local club! :)

Kasman ... oh, I got a good laugh out of your comment! Thanks for the smile. :)

richardarowell ... well, I'm not sure cute is quite the word for it, but if you think that's the case, we'll let you have that opinion. :)

&AbbyG ... well, if there's anything uglier than a katydid, it's a cicada. Our cat used to catch them and bring them to the door. Guess they were a present?

We do have bush crickets in the UK that look similar but as far as I'm aware they don't sing...

I don't think they're ugly at all. Poor buggis is going to get a complex.
