Back to Taking Echinacea

I seems I was going full steam ahead a few days ago, but yesterday and today I've been dragging my sorry behind around. I've gotten a few posts written and done some interacting. But it's been such slow going the last bit!

Yes, I know I've been fighting off a cold this week. And yes, I had stopped taking my echinacea supplements because I thought I was doing better. That's probably what did me in! And now I'm left with a runny nose and itchy eyes, and an annoying tickle in my lungs that makes me want to cough.

So I guess it's back to the zinc and echinacea for me! The big girls are away at a band clinic this weekend, so I'm down two helpers and can't afford to be sick. And the public schools are opening on Monday: the kids can't afford to be sick either...

For a moment I thought you were on homoeopathty as Echinacea is a remedy also in this discipline. Get well and come back with your posts of substance as always.

I take it preventatively, all "winter" although my climate is temperate. Astragalus works just as well for me. I take at least a gram a day of vitamin C all winter too, and most of the summer, too. Usually I drink a packet a day of those delicious fizzy Emergen-C supplements.

There is something going around. The end of summer cold is spreading here too.

I understood that with Echinacea, you were better to have a rest at times from taking it. I generally take it if I feel a sniffle just starting (and zinc and Vit C) but don't take it at other times because my diet is good and I get lots of outside exercise. I believe Vitamin D is also now being found very helpful for (a) energy and (b) colds and respiratory illnesses.

Ouch! I hope you feel better soon and the kids are able to avoid getting sick before returning to school. Rest is called for, but I imagine your weekend is going to be busy with preparations for Monday.

Have you tried astragalus? We take three with breakfast and three after dinner every day to keep the immune system up. It seems to do the job, along with Mannatec's Ambrotose, to keep us from getting sick. The trick is to take it year-round. WE hardly catch anything. Of course, I hardly go anywhere with lots of people and I don't have children who bring things home from school, either.
