I Need to Stay Focused When I Work on HubPages

When I get over to there are so many distractions. There are the several Facebook groups for those making the transition from Squidoo to HubPages and looking for help. There are also the various help forums for which I get notifications as I'm working. Then there are the comments to answer. I almost think Hubpages is about to be split in reality. Since all the former Squids have to have new accounts for their transferred lenses, they are working together again in a way they haven't in a while. It's almost like being back in RocketMoms because we are into helping each other again and reading each other's hubs. It's like I have separate groups of friends for each account.

All the interaction seems to keep me from staying focused on what I need to be doing – getting those lenses turned into hubs I can be proud of. My average hub score is going up, as is my hubber score for the new account, but it still hasn't caught up with my established account. I did delete my hub “Should You Squidoo” from my first account. It seems to be obsolete now. I also updated one that had some comparisons between Squidoo and HubPages. I only got one transferred hub edited today. So I'm behind again.

What sites make it hard for you to stay focused on what you came to do?

Ever since I got introduced to Bubblews and here I have not gone back to Iwriter where a lot of concentration is called for.

I have three hubs and I joined a good while ago, I find it hard to cope there. I don't like all these template thingys that I have to use. I told myself I would keep going till I got to ten hubs so I could get an adsense account but I really don't like it and I have pretty much never been back. I do know that some people earn really well there but since I have no adsense account I have earned nothing which is another reason why I struggle to force myself to go back.

I need to concentrate more on my freelance stuff, I have 8 articles left on a particular contract but they are boring as heck and I just cant get motivated so I am trying to do one a day in order to break it up a bit.

I call that falling down the rabbit hole. It happens to me a lot. I try to avoid pintrest like the plague because I blink and two hours have passed. But then I just need "one" picture for a visual reference, and BAM I fall down the hole again. Good luck!

Persona Paper is one such site. I come here to write a couple of posts but I read one post and then move to another and then another and then another... and there goes my 'posting' time. Not that I'm complaining though. LOL!

I am also slowly working my way through my converted lenses (one reason why I don't spend much time here). I have decided that I like HubPages (didn't think I would) and will be writing more there once I have coped with the editing of my new hubs!

Being on Bubblews can be a big distraction from working on more serious sites that pay less.

BarbRad wrote on September 13, 2014, 12:49 PM

That's one reason I don't freelance. I admit that I wouldn't write on HubPages unless I could look forward to getting paid for it. It's lot of work to write a good hub. I kind of enjoy working with the capsules to make an interesting layout.

I agree about Pinterest. It leads to serious addiction. As does Tumbler. I haven't been to Tumbler in a couple of weeks now.

BarbRad wrote on September 13, 2014, 12:51 PM

I do try to work through my notifications here every day, even if i don't get any posting done.

It's kind of nice to see your hub and your hubber scores rise, isn't it?Are you using the same name there as here? I don't think I've seen you there yet, or my mind is too boggled to recall it.

I am in the fortunate position where freelancing is not my main source of income so I can pick and choose which jobs I go for. I only ever apply for things that interest me but this was one of those, it sounded really interesting until I started actually working on it types but I don't want to back out of it because I am still too new to oDesk to suffer the negative feedback and to be honest the money is actually really good for the amount of work.

I think if I spent more time there I would get used to the capsules eventually but its a lot of work when i'm not getting paid for it. The original plan was to turn ten of my old helium articles into hubs quite quickly so I could get an adsense account, then I could spend more time on future hubs because there would be some benefit. Then I realised I had to deal with all those capsule thingys and I just really don't like it.

Yep a writers job is never done. I'm at HubPages and love it.

Kasman wrote on September 13, 2014, 5:44 PM

I already had an account with HubPages although I hadn't written anything there so when the Squidoo thing happened I had to open a new account under a different username 'cos that's what they said we had to do. I am there under the name 'Namsak' - Kasman backwards! :)

I get to easily distracted with things lately. I think hubpages is easy to get distracted on and if you have lots of lenses to repair into quality hubs it can be overwhelming making distractions more tempting...lol

BarbRad wrote on September 13, 2014, 7:03 PM

I'll look for you. I just started following a Kasman who may or may not be you. It was excellent work, but nothing new has been added for about fifteen months, it appears. I just commented on a couple of those hubs under my WannaB Writer account, or maybe it was my new account under this name. I get so confused between accounts there now. You really ought to publicize some of that old work if it's yours and bring it back to life.

Iwriter pays well but one needs to concentrate a lot there. As they are real articles unlike the hogwash that is allowed at Bubblews emoticon

BarbRad wrote on September 13, 2014, 7:33 PM

Found you, read, and commented on one of your fishy hubs that deserves more attention. I shall tweet it out.

BarbRad wrote on September 13, 2014, 7:36 PM

I haven't been there quite enough today working on my own hubs. Need to get back.

BarbRad wrote on September 13, 2014, 7:37 PM

Quite right! And there are so many ways to rationalize giving into those distraction.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on September 14, 2014, 12:28 AM

This is Guiness the Cat. Leave it to Kasman to write something fishy. Does it smell interesting?

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on September 14, 2014, 12:30 AM

Bubblews and Persona Papers are both big distractions for me. I start reading and lose track of time, and then nothing else on my list gets done. I haven't had time to start editing my hubs yet. I'm quickly running out of September and the month isn't even half over yet!

BarbRad wrote on September 14, 2014, 4:08 AM

September is going way too fast. I still have to walk precincts at the end of the month and see my neurosurgeon to learn my fate the first week of October.

cmarieweber wrote on September 14, 2014, 11:33 AM

Whenever I get to HP I get distracted too. I always end up bouncing around and not getting anything done. It takes a lot of self discipline I just do not have. lol

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on September 14, 2014, 9:41 PM

I think you'd best let someone else walk the precincts this time. Take care that neck. You want to be able to still walk after the election.

BarbRad wrote on September 15, 2014, 2:37 AM

The ER doctor says walking is good for me.
