May I Have This Dance

May I Have This Dance

As I lay in bed with the soft cloud of deep sleep beginning to take over, I hear a sweet smooth melody playing in the background. It’s very soft and comforting to the soul and I snuggle in closer to my pillow listening to that soft melody, thinking, that I've heard it before, but not remembering where.

As the music starts to take over I feel a hand on my shoulder and a small whisper asking “Can I have this dance”, the voice is so familiar and calming that I can feel myself start to sway to the music. I can feel myself being twirled around in dance on the dance floor.

There is so much happiness, joy and love that surround me as the music plays and I dance. As the song ends, I can see the two people dancing, as if I am witnessing this beautiful moment and I feel it at the same time.

To my surprise, it was me as a little girl and as I look at the other person, my heart skips a beat, it’s my mother, as beautiful as I remember her to be. She reaches down and taps my nose and kisses my cheek and says “I will always dance with you”.

You see, my mother passed away 2 years ago suddenly and I was unable to see her before she passed. As a child we used to always dance together around the kitchen floor and through the house. She would hold her hand out to me with the air of a queen and say …“May I have this dance” and we would lock hands and twirl around the house. At the end of each dance I would curtsy and say “thank you Madame” and we would have a big laugh at ourselves for the English accents we would try to use.

Life gives us moments in our dreams for a reason, and this moment, this dream, I needed so very much at this time in my life and to know that she is there for me is something that will keep me going in those times that I wish I could talk with her.

I bow my head and curtsy to your mom. Thank you for this wonderful dance. I love and miss you with all of my heart.

That's a lovely dream and you wrote this article so lovingly as well. I think your Mom was maybe looking down on you, and I have a feeling she would be very proud of you.
I miss my Mom too, she would have been 96 in 6 days time, the same day as my youngest daughter turns 10.

This was touching and your mom - she was gorgeous. I lost mine about a year-and-a-half back, too.

Some dreams are very special, and I'm sure they are sent to minister to our spirits when we most need them.

Thank you LeaPea2417 - I don't share too many personal stories or events on this site, so I thought sharing this was good.

bestwriter - Thank you. This is the first time since her passing that I've had a dream with her in it.

tinamarie wrote on September 13, 2014, 1:27 PM

emiro - She had some really good days and some really bad days, but this was one of my favorite things she did with me that is a good memory.

poddys - Thank you so much. I would like to think that she is very proud of my life. I do miss her very much as you must know. Happy Birthday to your Mom. I hope she too is looking down upon you and your family.

Thank you my dear friend. You know how I feel about dreams and happenings. This meant a lot, it was a memory I had forgotten. I can still smell her perfume. Weird!

LoudMan - Thank you, and yes she was gorgeous! I remember you writing about your mother on the other site. It's so sad when it happens and the sadness goes away for a little bit, but will pop right back out at a memory or a smell. Sometimes when I cook, I think mine is in my kitchen because the smells are the same. I think that's why I love to cook so much and share my recipes, it's also what she loved.

BarbRad - I also believe that! My brother visits me often. He is years younger than I am and passed when he was 41

LoudMan wrote on September 13, 2014, 1:58 PM

At those moments, maybe she is. I mean, really. I refuse to let a bunch of boring, fat atheists tell me there isn't anything else just because they don't think there is...or whatever their reasoning.

LoudMan wrote on September 13, 2014, 4:01 PM

You're over 40? Really? I'd have never guessed. No joke.

Dreams have a connection with our thoughts.

It's so saddening to lose a parent while your young or older. We know sooner or later it will happen, but you are really never prepared.

tinamarie wrote on September 14, 2014, 7:38 PM

I believe they are around us. I think life goes on and they are just another form. I don't think life was meant to just end.

LoudMan wrote on September 14, 2014, 8:49 PM

Nunh-uh. You lie. Really? You kid. Surely, you kid.

tinamarie wrote on September 15, 2014, 11:49 AM

lol.... nope, no kidding :)

LoudMan wrote on September 15, 2014, 12:20 PM

Well, you should be prod, then. I'm just sayin'.
