Reasons Why People Smoke Even When They Know Cigarettes Are Poison

My husband smokes. I hate the smell. But he still smokes. I don't know why people smoke when it can make them smell bad and shorten their lives. And they all know that cigarettes are poison but that fact doesn’t stop them from continuing their bad habit.

My husband was previously diagnosed with angina. For those of you who don't know what angina is, it is something like a heart attack but not exactly a heart attack. However, if left untreated, it will and may lead to a heart attack. It’s like a prequel to a heart attack.

After an angiogram, the doctor found one clogged artery. You should know that all of us have four main arteries going to the heart. My husband only has three unclogged arteries left.

The doctor advised him to stop smoking but he is still smoking regardless. I don't know what to think. I ask myself why he still smokes even after what the doctor had said. Why do you smoke? This is my opinion of the reasons why people smoke.

1. Tired of living

Cigarettes are poison. This is what the doctor told me. And all of you should know too. Cigarettes are poison. So why take poison unless you want to die? So I think people smoke because they're tired of living. They want to DIE! Do you want to die? If you don't, then stop smoking. It's so easy. Stop feeding yourself poison!

2. Bad odor

Smelling smoke odor is not nice. People who smoke probably don't like to smell good. They like the bad odor which cigarettes leave in their mouth, their clothes, their hair and their fingers. Walking by a heavy smoker is like walking through a building on fire. Perhaps, they want to chase away others due to their bad odor.

3. Don't want children

It has been proven that smoking may lead to infertility in both men and women. Even if they have children, their children may have stunted growth. A report in the British Medical Journal stated that the fertility of both men and women who smoke are reduced. For men, smoking may lead to impotence. So I guess smokers must not like to have children. That is why they smoke.

I hope my husband would stop smoking. And for those of you who still smoke, stop smoking if you love your family and yourself. Stop feeding yourself poison!

yes i used to smoke when i was younger (about 30 years younger) while working in the hospital probably due to stress and influence but when i learned i was pregnant I stopped cold turkey and until now don't smoke. Maybe because then i was just smoking for a year or two

That is good that you managed to quit smoking paperdaisyflower7 . Perhaps you can share how you managed to do it? Was it hard? I'm sure there are many who would like to read about your experience.

Most smokers I know don't quit because they are addicted to tobacco. They become miserable if they stop smoking.

no it wasn't because I was thinking of my health and my baby. I also kept away from cigarettes and those who smoke too much

I stopped reading at your first item. You clearly lack an understanding of addiction.

My father used to smoke about two packs of cigarrettes per day. My mother advised him not to smoke but he said that he couldn't. I feel that it is very hard for a person to give up smoking.

My older son smokes and it doesn't matter how often we warn him about how bad it is for his health, he just laughs it off . He is the type that thinks he is invincible and nothing bad will happen to him. I pray everyday for him that he will snap out of it and think straight!

I recently saw a woman with two young children and she was smoking like a chimney just next to their pram. It was beyond me how someone blessed with two kids can still do that.

My thought is that she did this on purpose, actually, and I found it effective for that reason.

Of course you know the real reason people smoke is that they are addicted to nicotine, which makes them feel good. But I like the approach you took with this article, with the reverse psychology. Maybe it will open the eyes of some people!

Like how you wrote the article. Slightly left of center but it worked.

I smoked cigarettes for 28 years before I quit 20 years ago. I did not smoke for any of the reasons you list in this article. I smoked because it was an uncontrollable habit which most of the time helped me to relax. When I smoked I never could smell so didn't realize I smelled so bad. It was bad judgment on my part and I'm happy I quit when I did.
