Joan Rivers, 1933-2014

Joan Rivers died today, following complications during throat surgery in a clinic in New York City. When the 81-year-old's breathing stopped, she was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and put into a medically-induced coma. Unfortunately, the long-time actress and comedienne never woke from that coma, and her daughter Melissa chose to turn off the life support systems.

Rivers was a complicated woman whose special brand of comedy relied heavily on self-deprecation. Her multiple plastic surgeries were no secret to anyone; she had been a regular patient of plastic surgeon Steven Hoefflin since 1983. Despite battling bulemia and depression, Rivers always seemed upbeat during performances and interviews.

An investigation is being conducted at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic where Rivers underwent throat surgery on August 28th.

I knew she's been on life support the last few days and actually just saw on the news she'd passed. Thanks for the update.

Better letting go than staying in that condition. I hope nobody tries to keep me hanging on at that age!

That is so sad. I hate to hear about that.

She was as mad as a hatter, but she made me laugh. She will be missed. I expect that she would have something to say about her death...
She was as mad as a hatter. Nevertheless she made me laugh and laughter is always good. She will be missed.
