I Am Beginning to "Get" Twitter

I think I may have reached burn out stage for this evening. I couldn't decide whether this post belonged under "Breaking News," because for me, it is, or maybe under "Technology" but I didn't want anyone to laugh at that choice.

I have spent the better part of three hours becoming acquainted with Twitter in a way I had never before. Folks, I learned how to make lists, how to add people to the list(s) and how to subscribe to other people's lists. Now the test will be to retain these learned techniques for 24 hours, until I am back to the "classroom" again.

As a member of Friends of Persona Paper and as a community member here in general, I would like to take my skills for promotion up a few notches. When Persona Paper thrives, so do we and vice versa.

Again, I give a big "thank you" to melody23 for the motivation for me to actually do this rather than to procrastinate, and to she and BarbRad for the information about the best uses of Twitter.

I recommend BarbRad 's " Update for Whom to Follow on Twitter " for anyone interested in learning the user names on Twitter of the FOPP folks. This post also gives an easy-to-understand and follow guide to just about everything you would want to know about Lists on Twitter.

If you might be interested in some free programs to help you get the most out of your Twitter experience, melody23 has two posts worth your while: " Twitter Tools: Socialoomph review " and " Twitter tools: review ."

melody23 has a number of posts explaining the importance of promotion via social media, especially Twitter and helpful advice such as how to gain followers on Twitter.

Last night I was feeling overwhelmed with all the information, but this evening, as I begin to take it step by step, I am finding it manageable and, dare I say it? -- fun.

I think I have 4 followers on Twitterm, I can't say I know what use it could be to me.

I am slowly becoming more adept at using Twitter, but I still have a long way to go. BarbRad is a good teacher.

Lol, I thought you swore off Twitter -- or have you reconsidered?

Feisty56 wrote on August 26, 2014, 10:20 PM

With some help, you can grow the number of people who follow you there, if you're interested. Certainly no one has to use any of the social media sites, they're just options.

Oh yes, I am no where near proficient on Twitter, but I no longer feel as if everything there is in a language I don't understand.

Pretty soon it will get to be habit if you keep at it for a few days. I'm going to see what you're up to there.

I've used Twitter in a very amateurish way for some time. I'm going to use the many tips from Melody23 and $BarbRad to start afresh. Should be interesting.

Twitter did my head in...maybe I should give it another try when I find the energy..

Feisty56 wrote on August 27, 2014, 10:38 PM

Uh oh, now I feel a bit like the student who has handed in a pop quiz and the teacher is about to grade my test.

Feisty56 wrote on August 27, 2014, 10:39 PM

Hey, maybe a bunch of us can meet over at Twitter and learn together! Okay, not such a good idea, at least not for me right now. It requires my total concentration on one thing at a time there -- but we can commiserate!

Feisty56 wrote on August 27, 2014, 10:41 PM

You are quite welcome. I found both yours and BarbRad 's posts quite helpful and inspiring and think others will, too. I appreciate your offer of assistance.

Feisty56 wrote on August 27, 2014, 10:42 PM

Yes, please do refer to their posts. I think you'll be inspired even more to give Twitter a serious try.

I recommend you wait until you have a chunk of time and a fairly clear mind before moving forward with Twitter. I think once we get the hang of it, Twitter won't be that difficult, but first we have to get over that hurdle.

Tuffy06 wrote on August 27, 2014, 10:58 PM

I seldom use Twitter even if I have been a member several years ago. I use them for reading news but not to Tweet or something.

Twitter is one of my best ways to promote. Thanks for the additional information.

Feisty56 wrote on September 3, 2014, 9:15 PM

Do you use any of the more popular media tools to promote your work or that of others? Certainly no one has to do any of that, and heaven knows I've only been going about half-cocked. Do you find the process too time-consuming or just not have an interest in that direction?

Feisty56 wrote on September 3, 2014, 9:16 PM

I am finding that a lot of people use Twitter -- and certainly much better than I do. lol But I am taking baby steps, so hope to become fairly proficient in not too much time.

Tuffy06 wrote on September 3, 2014, 11:45 PM

Before, I used to do that...promoting my works via Twitter but sometimes I forgot. I don't find the process too time-consuming but it just skip my mind whenever I submit an article here.

I am not on twitter (well at least I don't think I am.) I had an account on there ages ago but I think that due to lack of use, that the account has been closed down. I think that for now I will get used to trying to use Tumblr properly (that is if the account on there is still active.)
