How to Write Your First Affiliate Marketing Website (Make Money before Halloween!)

A lot of people want to give affiliate marketing a try. So here's what I recommend based on 15 years of running a successful affiliate marketing business. This is the actual process I followed today to design a new website in five hours. It will work for you as well.

Step 1. I got up at 6:30 am and was at Wal-Mart (wound-vac and all) when it opened. I walked down the main aisle and scrutinized the displays. I selected 10 related Halloween items that they are pushing, that I felt would do well. I bought them so I could take pictures and so that my descriptions would ring true.
Wal-Mart does more customer research than anyone. If they are displaying a holiday item early, then they expect it to sell. I had hundreds of Halloween products to choose from.
Step 2. I am a member of the Wal-Mart affiliate program and can easily create a website based on these products and get paid. I chose a website name that should inspire trust. While Wal-Mart pays a very low commission rate compared to other programs, people love buying from it and it converts.

The name is general. Think along the lines of Ten Must Have Halloween Products. Try to put a little more pizzazz in it. I'm pretty sure that's taken anyways. I may change products next year and the site name can accommodate that. I chose classic items and hope they will still be selling next year though.
Step 3. I decided on a thee-month web-hosting package. That gets me through Halloween. If the site does well, then I'll go for a year and get through another Halloween cycle.
Step 4. I use Wordpress and a StudioPress theme to create a website. It has a home page, about us page, a privacy page and 10 product pages. Each product page has several original photos and at least 1,000 words of original content.
The website was live by noon. Go ahead give affiliate marketing a try!

I'll probably still be broke on Nov. 1. You lost me at 6:30 a.m. emoticon  That comes twice a day?

Seriously, you've got a lot of good tips in this article. I'll have to remember those.

Good post, very useful. Need traffic, though - have you any tips for that?

You do make it sound easy. And you did give me an idea of what to focus on first as I start republishing and reworking some of my Squidoo lenses for the local site I started building last night. I appreciate your tips based on experience.

You make it sound so easy! I think I just might give this plan a go for Valentine's day! Why not?!
