Why am I going on about promotion so much?

I have written a few articles yesterday and today about promoting our writing, and there is a very good reason for this. Not only because I am benefiting from it and I want to share that with others but because I honestly want to do anything I can to help this site, one thing this site really needs is page views. Promotion will help that, I don't just promote my own stuff by the way I will tweet anything I find interesting on my travels around the homepage or my activity feed.

I also want to help people the way folks helped me when I started out with promotion. I don't think I even knew what twitter was when I started writing for money, and to be honest I was quite happy to keep it that way. That is until someone explained the benefits to me, back then it was a lot easier to make money online and I am not saying that I get the same results now as I did then, but I do believe that it is still worth it for us all.

I knew absolutely nothing about tweeting, what a retweet was and how important it is or how to use tools like socialoomph and justunfollow. People took the time to point me in the right direction and help me figure out how to use these tools to my advantage. I would like to offer the same help to other writers now who may not know too much about promotion.

I have learned a lot since I started promoting my articles, none of that would have happened if someone hadn't pointed me in the right direction and explained the basics to me.

If you have questions, ask. Maybe put up a post with your questions and I will answer what I can, there are many other knowledgeable writers here that I am sure would be willing to help as well, feel free to tag me in a post if you want to ask something. There is no such thing as a stupid question.

I do some simple sharing of articles here but only on Google+ and Pinterest. I have no way of knowing how many page views this has generated but some articles have been +1'd on Google+ - that's Google+'s version of retweeting. Membership of PP currently stands at 553 and hasn't change for several days. We need to do something - but what?

I really do think the best thing we can do is promote ours, and other writers stuff. I am going to be blunt and say that most people will not come to a site where the pay is so low, but there must be others like us who see the benefits of being a part of this site as it grows. The only thing we can do really is try to get the page views up, in turn that will increase the sites revenue (and our share, but that's not really the point here), which in turn gives them more power with ad networks, or more bargaining power when selling ads themselves as elitecodex is doing.

Promote your (and other people's) articles, share your referral link and encourage people to join the site is really all I can think of. Well and write quality articles, but that is sort of obvious.

I need to tweet more of my articles.

This is very interesting. I know very little about Twitter to promote articles. Are you already seeing increased views to PP articles that you tweet about?

Do you think I should set up a Twitter account just to promote articles? If so, how do you go about gaining followers?

melody23 wrote on August 24, 2014, 2:34 PM

according to my stats I have 28 links to pp articles that I am tweeting/tracking through socialoomph, these 28 links have had 162 clicks since I reorganised my account last night and redid all the links to fix the tracking that wasn't working because of a mistake on my end.

Yes definitely set up a separate account because if you try to use the same one for promotion and anything else it becomes impossible after you have a certain amount of followers. I have 800 followers and I could never keep up with them all or find a personal tweet that would be lost in amongst them. I have a few follower gaining strategies, I will put up a post that way other people can read it too that might not see this comment

How are you measuring those clicks- are they views to your articles at Persona Paper?

Look forward to your next article about Twitter! :)

melody23 wrote on August 24, 2014, 3:23 PM

Those are from my click statistics from the software I use to schedule my tweets, it also counts the statistics if you use their inbuilt link shortening software.

suffolkjason wrote on August 24, 2014, 3:33 PM

Do you see the benefit of those clicks with extra views here?

melody23 wrote on August 24, 2014, 3:38 PM

The statistics only show if the person clicked the link so in theory all those clicks came here, however sometimes the click is not valid which is a whole other topic, but yes I have noticed a slight difference in my earnings, I haven't checked the individual views on each of the articles I tweeted but I am definitely getting slightly more views than usual, given that its the weekend and things are usually quieter it might not make much difference till tomorrow mind you

You've hit the nail on the head! We've all got to help each other (and that includes plugging this site wherever and whenever)!!! Keep up the great work!!!

melody23 wrote on August 24, 2014, 5:00 PM

Absolutely, if we all work together we can get this site the exposure it needs to take off big time!

I think if we all promoted the most interesting posts from this site on Twitter or wherever you may be active socially, it would make a big difference. Use hashtags. I just registered the hashtag . Feel free to use it if you are one of those who took the challenge and want others to find your Twitter posts about PP by clicking the hashtag.

melody23 wrote on August 24, 2014, 6:59 PM

That's a great idea, I am going to add the hashtag to all my tweets from here from now on. Together we can make a huge difference to traffic and just getting the site's name out there.

You're generous to offer assistance to those who have questions or don't even yet know what questions to ask. I am willing to extend a helping hand wherever I can, but I fear my knowledge is not as extensive as yours or some other writers here.

melody23 wrote on August 24, 2014, 7:47 PM

We all have different knowledge and people will know things that I don't and vice versa. People helped me when I started out and I honestly didn't have a clue, I knew how to write but that was it, people took the time to show me things or I learned from other people's comments on posts such as this one. It is nice to have mastered promotion enough where I feel that I can give others advice, I don't know everything but perhaps some of the things I know are different to some of the things others know and together we can all help each other and the site.
