I'm Starting a Book Swapping Meet With Friends!

I'm starting a book swapping meet with friends next week and hopefully everything pans out right. I'm a big Clive Cussler fan and although I can purchase his books online, I'd rather try to get his titles that I haven't read yet in a more affordable manner. Anyway, I'm not keeping my options close, in fact aside from the Clive Cussler books that I so much want, I'm also open to receiving children's books for my daughter plus other self-help and leadership books that my friends can come up with. I've been a big fan of book sales but since I'm either short on time or money or both, I decided to hold a book swap meet. I'm not sure if it will be a permanent swap or not but so far, my friends are good with just lending/borrowing the books that we will bring. perhaps in future book swap meets, we can go ahead and trade books straight up or perhaps sell these titles at a discounted price.

So my fellow bookworms, have you experienced attending a book swap meet? What were your experiences? Given the chance, would you join one? Any comments or pointers? Feel free to chime in friends!

I've never held nor attended one, but will be interested to hear how yours goes. It sounds like some fun and a great way to get together with other book-loving friends.

The closest I've come was a book table someone brought to the park on Farmers market day. You could take a book free if you donated a book. I brought lots of books to trade the next week. The table was only there a month.

We have so many books in our house! Every so often I give a number away. It's very hard giving books away but even in a big house like ours, there is a limit! I donated a number on freecycle a few months ago. I think the person who collected them must have had similar tastes to you because most of the ones I donated were self help and business.

You bet it was! Everyone went home with a 'new' book!

It went well. Before hand, I had asked friends to give a list of books that they'll bring and books that they are looking for. So everyone already had an idea on what everyone else is bringing and what everyone else wants. We will be donating all the books that no one took to an orphanage for the children to enjoy. Of course, we will make sure that the titles are age appropriate.

That sounds like a good deal. A book for a book!

Oh to live in a houseful of books! That would be such a dream!

Glad to hear all the way around. I imagine the orphanage will be thrilled to receive donated books!

That's a great thing to do...swapping books instead of throwing it away right? :)

Be careful what you wish for. It can turn into a nightmare.

This sounds like a neat idea. I liked reading in the comments about how it went. :)
