Instant Account Ban

Hi everyone, I just wanted to take a minute to re-iterate a few things that people may not be familiar with. Older members have seen these I am sure, but newer ones may have missed it or forgotten. I suppose it is possible they never knew. Just want to point out a few items of how you can instantly lose your account here at Persona Paper

Plagiarism

This is a big one, that we try to re-iterate as much as possible. Any article we find to be plagiarized will be removed, and your account deleted immediately. There will be no warnings on this, so I ask that you please exercise caution when posting items if you are moving them from another site. It would behove you to first ensure that the content has been removed from the other site. If Google still has a "cached" version, then that is fine. But the live link should not contain the content you are posting here.

What is the difference between duplicate content and plagiarised content?

If we find that an article has been reposted, and you have the same username then we know that you are the original author and can email you a warning regarding this. However, if your usernames are not the same then we have no way of knowing that is you, therefore is considered plagiarized content.

Traffic Exchange Websites

The usage of a traffic exchange can hurt the site, as it will reduce our value to potential advertisers and possible get us banned from advertising networks. We routinely monitor traffic just about all day long, and will take action against a user who is attempting to abuse the system. Please do not do this as we already have checks in place to filter illegitimate views so it does you no good, and will just result in an account ban.

In conclusion, I want to say that I am still hopeful for a vibrant and growing community and we are routinely making improvements to the site. Please honor the above notices so we can all grow together.

I hope there is no ban on loud noises.

elitecodex wrote on August 13, 2014, 3:13 PM

Actually there is, but that only applies to ads :) Now I just need to figure out how to ban those.

Scorpie wrote on August 13, 2014, 3:16 PM

Wow, ads with audio, how cleaver!

LoudMan wrote on August 13, 2014, 3:18 PM

Always good to have reminders. You never kno hwat noob might not know.

MegL wrote on August 13, 2014, 4:38 PM

elitecodex , I got another malicious advert. Got a screenshot too.

poddys wrote on August 13, 2014, 4:41 PM

Ads with audio and video that starts automatically are really annoying, especially when you are reading at work or when you need to be quiet. Great if you could ban those, but it's the rogue ads that direct you to sites with viruses that I really loath. Seems to be a new trend, and the creators of these have no shortage of funds to create thousands of domains daily and to unleash them on the world.

poddys wrote on August 13, 2014, 4:42 PM

I had one several hours ago too. The WOT plugin and AVG Free saved me again. It downloaded a fake Java update automatically and this file contained a virus.

MegL wrote on August 13, 2014, 4:44 PM

Yes, I have had to delete two of those today!

suffolkjason wrote on August 13, 2014, 4:48 PM

Same here, I wondered what was going on.

suffolkjason wrote on August 13, 2014, 4:53 PM

I totally support this policy. There is nothing more disappointing than finding that people are trying to cheat or game the system. It damages the reputation of the site and undoes the good work of genuine members.

MegL wrote on August 13, 2014, 5:01 PM

eliteCodex explained that hackers buy advertising on the advertisers' sites specifically for the purpose of sending this rubbish to people's computers. Why don't they get a life!

poddys wrote on August 13, 2014, 5:05 PM

And I just had another one too. Easy to see how the unsuspecting can get duped. This time I opened a post and had only just started to read it when I got redirected and had the Java Update Popup.

SandraLynn wrote on August 13, 2014, 5:24 PM

Reminders are always good :) Thanks for these :)

SandraLynn wrote on August 13, 2014, 5:25 PM

If you are still using Qadabra, you can email support and request to have audio ads be silenced :)

indexer wrote on August 13, 2014, 6:01 PM

I was checking some of my old Helium articles yesterday - by running a plagiarism check to ensure that I had not already used the material elsewhere before submitting it to PP - and I found that the first two I checked had been plagiarized by anonymous third parties. Were I to use this material on PP you would presumably ban me for having plagiarized the plagiarizers! It strikes me that re-using material is fraught with danger, and people could easily be caught out for no fault of their own. The safest course is therefore to only use fresh material on PP, unless one has made very careful checks to ensure that it appears nowhere else.

elitecodex As for plagiarism, I think this is horrible that people even do this. They could get into a lot of trouble and even serve time in jail. So I agree that this one is a big one. Traffic exchanges, well, I think we all know about them. They are actually a waste of time, believe me. I used to try them with referral links, and guess what, they never worked at all. And they are also time consuming. So I stay away from these sites. I like promoting my links in social sites like Facebook and Google. I also love Twitter because I can tweet my links and then wait a while and tweet them again. Always spacing them out of course. The key to any site like this is being active. The more you write, the more you interact with other member, the better off you will be.

allen0187 wrote on August 13, 2014, 7:21 PM

Thanks for the reminder. Perhaps we can stick post reminders such as this in the front page for everyone to see. What do you think elitecodex ?

BarbRad wrote on August 13, 2014, 8:45 PM

I'm sorry if people are already trying to cheat on this site. I'm glad you have filters at work to catch them. I hope I haven't been caught by any malicious ads. I never click on them, but I did have something wanting to update -- might have been Java, when I opened Windows today. I didn't. Sometimes it's hard to know which updates are legit.

ksridharprasad wrote on August 13, 2014, 8:48 PM

Thanks once again for the information about posting articles in this site, is there any possibility to post the same articles first posted in this site and next to other sites they does not object any articles from other sites.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on August 14, 2014, 1:03 AM

I never trust any of those pop-ups for updates, "Your computer is infected", etc. They are all scare tactics used to get you to click on their ad. When in doubt, always initiate my own check for viruses or updates.

cm_ang83 wrote on August 14, 2014, 1:48 AM

Okey. Very clear explanation and i believe members who had been deleted account have no excuse to blame admin. Thanks for inform.

MegL wrote on August 14, 2014, 3:25 AM

Yes, that would be very rough justice indeed! You are quite right, fraught with danger. I re-read my old stuff and then find it needs rewriting anyway! I find mistakes that weren't there the first time round!!!

LeslieAdrienne wrote on August 14, 2014, 5:50 PM

Love AGV Free... it has save me on more than one occasion.....

LeslieAdrienne wrote on August 14, 2014, 5:54 PM

Thanks Although the rules are clear, it is good to occasionally reiterate them for the newbies, and for those who think they can sneak by the rules....

acelawrites wrote on August 14, 2014, 11:07 PM

That's a good reminder. If we delete posts from another site, do we have to wait for 90 days to have it de-indexed by google before it can be posted here?

SuesoGreen wrote on August 15, 2014, 12:10 AM

Thanks for sharing this one

elitecodex wrote on August 15, 2014, 8:37 AM

No, if Google still has it "cached" then that is fine. But if the link is still active, then you need to wait until the original publisher removes it from their website (YCN, Helium, Squidoo, etc).

astraldreamer wrote on August 16, 2014, 7:27 AM

hi sorry if its been reported already but in the last five minutes when i click on a new page it redirects to this page http://69.162.91.230/uk/index.php and says i need to update java, i just press the back button but it keeps coming back.

Tuffy06 wrote on August 18, 2014, 2:50 AM

Thank you for informing us. I know I haven't plagiarized anything and I want it to keep it that way.

elitecodex wrote on August 18, 2014, 10:49 AM

Yep, that is the same issue that melody23 and MegL have both experienced (although the IP is slightly different).

The ad network has made some changes, so please clear your cache just to be safe and let me know if you see anything like this again. Sorry about that.

madhavan_as wrote on August 25, 2014, 10:47 AM

Copy or Plagiarism is not good for any site. Good to know.

madhavan_as wrote on August 25, 2014, 10:47 AM

Narrating a thing on own words is much better.

mrdprince wrote on August 31, 2014, 7:46 PM

It seems like no matter where you go, someone is trying to cheat. Glad to see you here and hoping to enjoy this site. Be cool, be happy but just be.

Jadecat777 wrote on October 23, 2014, 9:51 AM

I believe that true and honest writers don't copy and paste, or plagiarize on others posts. They need to find their own and they are doing themselves more harm than good.

carmela wrote on November 2, 2014, 8:20 PM

as a newcomer i am very thankful to be constantly reminded of the do's and dont's of this site.

nbaquero wrote on March 18, 2015, 10:27 PM

elitecodex Is this another test with the timestamp? I see the original post is from back in Aug, 2014, but of course the content of it is relevant. Just curious.

CalmGemini wrote on March 18, 2015, 10:41 PM

Surprised! Of course these issues are relevant always. But I see this is an old post.I was wondering, but when I saw nbaquero's comment I was relieved.

elitecodex wrote on March 18, 2015, 10:48 PM

LOL yes. I was doing some testing, and using an older article as testing so it would not be noticed. Then I saw a number of views scrolling by in the log for the same article. Oops.

Soonerdad3 wrote on March 18, 2015, 11:31 PM

The sad part is that you have to continue to remind people not to break the rules.

bestwriter wrote on March 18, 2015, 11:34 PM

Even if posts are deleted elsewhere it is good to check if they are still doing the rounds as plagiarists would have already copied them and called their own.

Paulie wrote on March 19, 2015, 1:10 AM

Thanks for clarifying the site's stance on plagiarism and plagiarized content. I'm not so sure what traffic exchange websites are. Could you please explain and clarify.

iimouto wrote on March 19, 2015, 4:18 AM

I also just got a virus warning right now. Is there a way to get rid of these "bad" ads? I want to support PP and load ads, but I don't want to risk getting my computer infected.

BarbRad wrote on March 19, 2015, 4:30 AM

Jason, you're reappeared. We've missed you. Where have you been? Oop! I didn't realize this was an old post. I guess you aren't back.

Thanks for the clarification, that's what I thought! LOL.

FreyaYuki wrote on March 19, 2015, 6:28 AM

Thanks for the reminders. Plagiarism and traffic exchanges should definitely not be allowed.

FreyaYuki wrote on March 19, 2015, 6:30 AM

I don't like the auto-play ads too. Those with no audio can be tolerated but I still don't like them anyway. Definitely hate those ads with malware and viruses.

elitecodex wrote on March 19, 2015, 8:07 AM

Those are sites that you put in URLs and they have something where you automatically visit other sites that submitted their URLs and in turn they will send traffic to your URL. They are created to artificially inflate views.

Hollyhocks100 wrote on March 19, 2015, 8:12 AM

Thanks for this update, many of us will be moving articles from other sites for sure.

LindaCPearson wrote on March 19, 2015, 9:15 AM

Thanks for clarifying this issue. I've been thinking of reposting some articles I have on another site but wasn't sure it was ok here. Now I know what to do to make it ok.

scheng1 wrote on March 19, 2015, 9:45 AM

A frame breaker will stop those from using traffic exchanges.

poddys wrote on March 19, 2015, 3:52 PM

It's the companies that supply the adverts that are the problem. They are not checking the quality of the links etc, and hackers are eager to benefit from that. Just wish Google Adsense would reverse their decision and activate PP again.

WordChazer wrote on March 19, 2015, 4:32 PM

Plagiarism is theft. Plagiarism of your own work is at best, ill advised, and at worst, stupid. Copyscape and many other free anti-plag tools exist to help check what has already been written and cached. Google is also good at removing previously cached items if you have a reason to request it: ie YOU have been plagiarised or you removed/deleted the content willingly from the site in question. As a heads-up, older articles which did well at the other site will not instantly disappear. My top ranking article there took a while to be removed but it looks as if it has finally gone now.

As for those video ads. Urgh. Please ban those as soon as! Autostart videos are the spawn of the devil and I rank them as malware, even though I can't flag them as such on here. My local newspaper site has them and my workplace bans access to the site as a given because it hosts these things.

WordChazer wrote on March 19, 2015, 4:33 PM

My AVG bagged two of those last week. Not good.

WordChazer wrote on March 19, 2015, 4:35 PM

BarbRad it's an old post but appears updated as to me it's showing today's date. And it's still relevant. Maybe more so now...

Paulie wrote on March 19, 2015, 11:26 PM

Thanks for the explanation. Since yesterday March 19 I have not received any coins for commenting on other posts. I was under the impression that we received a coin for each post we commented on. I am in Thailand and is that the reason I am not receiving coins for my comments now?

LadyDuck wrote on March 21, 2015, 10:04 AM

It's good to have reminders. I appreciate your attitude on plagiarized content, no matter if text or images, I was very upset to find some of my articles plagiarized.

luisga814 wrote on April 14, 2015, 12:48 AM

I am checking the profile page of the owners elitecodex and MaeLou and I found out that their last post were 2w 1d. Why I am checking, I am puzzled why they are not replying with my query. More than a week ago, my account was suspended due to incoherent English. Even if I wanted to post new article. I cannot. But I can comment with articles of others. What happened to them? can bestwriter valmnz MegL can answer my last question?

bestwriter wrote on April 14, 2015, 12:59 AM

It is best that you write to them through 'contact' as I would not know the reason.

luisga814 wrote on April 14, 2015, 2:20 AM

I already did. I am just curious what happened to both of them. Hope they are okay. Thanks anyway.

MegL wrote on April 14, 2015, 4:21 AM

Sorry to hear that luisga814 . I haven't heard anything from them for a while. Just out of interest, does the number of coins you have continue to increase while you are banned, eg when you comment on others' posts?

xstitcher wrote on April 16, 2015, 1:00 PM

Thank you for the heads up. :D

Deema wrote on May 2, 2015, 3:11 PM

Thank you for this, because even though I have been a member for a while I did not know about the traffic exchange rule, as it occurred a lot among Bubblews users. I can see how it is a problem though.

noni1959 wrote on June 5, 2015, 10:38 PM

I need to download a new virus scanner but need a free one for right now. Do you have recommendations? I've been reading the comments and the virus scares are worrying me. I look up some on the internet but worry they are virus in disguise.
