Shadow Photography

I snapped this photo of my husband and our dog while we were walking at the park. I thought it was cool that their shadows showed up so well.

I love shadow photography. I haven't got any shots that I think are great yet, but I plan to keep trying. I love the light and dark aspect of some photography I've seen. I believe the photographs stage those photos though and I haven't learned quite how to do it. I also don't have all the equipment and props that others do. I'll keep learning though.

Do you like shadow photography? You can look it up on Google if you don't know what it is. There are some cool shots out there. I hope to be among them one of these days.

The dog looks like carry-on luggage. :)

AngelSharum wrote on August 11, 2014, 2:19 PM

LOL, yeah he does in a way. He is a 90 pound German Shepherd. That would be heavy luggage.

I had one like that once. His name was Max. He lived at the garage and loved sneaking up on people and barking. So sneaky!

AngelSharum wrote on August 11, 2014, 2:25 PM

Riley doesn't know how to sneak...lol. He loves barking at the neighbor when he rides by on his moped.

This was back in the day when the garage bay doors were all glass. There was a payphone on the corner of the building and max would wind his way through the shadows of the shop then jump in from of the glass and bark like mad. Nearly 100 percent of the time the caller would drop the phone and run. Good times.

I like the look of this picture. Shadow photography is really cool.

Your husband's and dog's shadows blend in well with the asphalt and the grass.

Early morning or late evening? I agree - shadows can produce some excellent effects, as can reflections in glass, etc.

Shadows on snow are quite interesting...you have a completely white background to work on and the shadows are grey-blue...adjust levels to darken the shadows...

AngelSharum wrote on August 11, 2014, 6:11 PM

It was evening. I'm not up in the early morning. ;)

If we get snow again this year, I might try some shadow photography with it. We had quite a bit last year, which was unusual for us.

I love shadow photography, and also reflection photography. Unfortunately, I get most of those shots accidentally, but I've taken a few on purpose.

That is a cool picture! Some shadow photography turns out really well while others don't at all.

I am a frustrated photographer. I just like to take shots but I don't have the skill or the good equipment :)

AngelSharum wrote on August 11, 2014, 10:58 PM

I have taken a couple of reflection shots. I should see if I still have them and post them.

AngelSharum wrote on August 11, 2014, 10:59 PM

The type of camera and lens does make a difference. My old camera took decent shots, but my new one with the different lenses does better.

I have to look up shadow photography. Sounds very interesting. Perhaps, I can try this next weekend. I'll try to post pictures.

I won a neat camera two years ago. I am sure that I haven't fully maximized its features but I must say sometimes I take good pictures from it.

One time, my friends andI went to the beach, we did shadow photograph two, we form ourselves into a pretty huge heart. :)

paigea wrote on August 12, 2014, 12:50 PM

I never heard of trying to take a picture of a shadow. I am always trying to keep the shadows off my photos of mystery shopping receipts.

Feisty56 wrote on August 12, 2014, 2:45 PM

You just gave me an idea with this photo and post. A shadow photo would be a wonderful way to capture my grandchildren, hand-in-hand. If I am able to get them all to cooperate at the same time, I'll share the photo here. Just don't expect much because I don't even qualify as an amateur photographer.

AngelSharum wrote on August 12, 2014, 4:10 PM

Good luck with it. I took one today that I hope looks nice. If so, I will post it soon.

AngelSharum wrote on August 12, 2014, 4:11 PM

I bet that was a cool photograph.

AngelSharum wrote on August 12, 2014, 4:12 PM

I bet it will be great. I look forward to seeing the photo.

Tuffy06 wrote on August 13, 2014, 2:44 AM

It was actually and we had loads of fun doing it by the beach. :)
