Just a Reminder, Fellow PPers - Newbies and Vets - Listen UP!

Grace ( bestwriter ) wrote a post recently that compelled me to pen this reminder for folks. In her post, she queried that some folks may have missed the fast and furious contest MaeLou and elitecodex were running to see who would be the one to write the 10,000th post on Persona Paper.

Because the contest is over (congrats Melody23 ) and Grace’s post saw some healthy comments regarding several opinions, I won’t link a bunch here - though if you haven’t gotten to know bestwriter , I highly recommend it. You can see my further mush and gush here .

So compelled, I am here today to remind folks of several things upon joining Persona Paper. It’s also possible you’ve been a member for some time now and have neglected to follow up. Then this one’s for you, as well.

Just a Reminder, Fellow PPers!

When you first join Persona Paper, it can be an exciting time. It’s new and different and you have lots of things to explore; friends to find and new people to get to know. But those things shouldn’t distract you from these four very important MUST-do’s, upon arriving here in our AWEsome Sauce community.

New to Persona Paper? Remember to Do This, That, the Other Thing and One More...

  • Follow MaeLou - Heather’s got all your information on the daily stuff around here. She also spends an incredible amount of time reading all of us and commenting so that our questions are answered quickly and correctly.

Who is she? Just one half of the team that make up our site owners here at Persona Paper. Get connected now. It’s for your benefit.

  • Follow elitecodex - Will is the technical side of PP and he is working around the clock to ensure smooth sailing on this ship of dreams we’re building here. He also spends a crazy good amount of time racing around the site interacting with folks and trouble shooting everything (EVERYTHING) to keep us on the right track.

Who is he? The other half (Will and Heather are happily married with children and both work full time jobs outside of PP. Yes. They do. Yikes and emoticon  ) of the team that own Persona Paper. Follow him. Now. You can thank me later.

  • Find Persona Paper on Facebook - If you are missing important posts here at PP, you may catch them in our closed Facebook group. Will and Heather are great about posting important updates there, so that we don’t miss a thing. Here’s the link , join our group, be in the know.

And lastly, perhaps most importantly...

  • Spend Time on Persona Paper’s Homepage - I know many of us log in to our profiles (automatically) but we need to remember to make time for the homepage here at Persona Paper. There is important information on a daily basis that you could be missing if you don’t take a moment to have a peek. Besides the scrolling ANNOUNCEMENTS located at the top of the page, you’ll also note two columns, which very often have MaeLou and elitecodex posts featured throughout.

You may want to also take a moment to scroll further down the page and just check out all the latest posts - it really isn’t all that overwhelming; trust a girl who has a condition where being overwhelmed can literally knock her OUT for days - to make sure you are up to date with everyone. As I said, Heather and Will are very involved throughout the site.

That’s it. 4 easy steps to ensure that you are in the know here at Persona Paper. If you are anything like me, you don’t want to miss a thing.

Nosy much?

Yep. ;)

Thanks, Grace, for inspiring this post. I hope this helps us all have a good, better, best experience at Persona Paper. I also hope this reminder wasn’t too obvious; sometimes we need a little “oh well duh”...

~ Cheers

You are in trouble Sandra. You have let me loose - you better keep a watch . I may go out of control (lol)

SandraLynn wrote on August 11, 2014, 8:04 AM

Me too, lol. Can't help it. Doesn't mean I don't miss stuff but I try to keep up on it ;) Following those four things above will ensure I do :)

SandraLynn wrote on August 11, 2014, 8:05 AM

LOL. I'll be watchin' ;) Try to maintain, if you can...I do like your style :)

melody23 wrote on August 11, 2014, 9:00 AM

Hey thanks for the mention. Some great tips you have here as well, I love checking out the homepage to see what's new, it's a great way to find new writers to connect to as well as read some interesting articles.

suffolkjason wrote on August 11, 2014, 9:25 AM

Thanks for those tips, very helpful for newbies like me. While I have your attention: Is there an easy way to get a list of who you are following?

Feisty56 wrote on August 11, 2014, 9:35 AM

Appreciate the reminder about Persona Paper on Facebook -- it's something I just don't think of myself.

vserrao1 wrote on August 11, 2014, 10:21 AM

This is a good reminder. I make sure to keep tabs on Persona Paper since it is growing.

SandraLynn wrote on August 11, 2014, 11:44 AM

There is no easy way for that, currently. When you follow folks, what they post show up in your notifs :) Oh but WAIT a minute...

If you go to BROWSE and hit Member List - everyone you're following will have a green check mark next to their name. Still not the best way but you can see them, anyway :)

And you are welcome. Also - WELCOME emoticon

SandraLynn wrote on August 11, 2014, 11:45 AM

Sometimes I can think for ya, my friend ;) Just let me know, because sometimes I'm going to need you to return the favor ;)

SandraLynn wrote on August 11, 2014, 11:47 AM

It's nice now because we are small, relatively. Even as we grow, those here now will grow with it and be more organized in how to interact. I'm stoked about that :)

Oddly, I discovered you on the front page when I popped in a bit ago and then I found you'd stopped by here and starting followin' me too ;) Good to meet ya!!

suffolkjason wrote on August 11, 2014, 12:14 PM

Thanks Sandra, that's a good work around. Might not be so useful when we have millions of members!

Scorpie wrote on August 11, 2014, 2:05 PM

Yeah buddy, that's his own hair.

BarbRad wrote on August 11, 2014, 6:36 PM

Thanks for all that helpful information. I have pretty much ignored the front page and didn't know about the Facebook group. Now I'm signed up and waiting for approval.

AliCanary wrote on August 11, 2014, 9:58 PM

Great tips! Hey, how do you make that big red heart? The usual

AliCanary wrote on August 11, 2014, 9:59 PM

....grrrr....I was trying to say the usual bird beak + 3 doesn't work :/

Tuffy06 wrote on August 12, 2014, 12:01 AM

Thanks for sharing this tip. I'm sure I wouldn't win the contest because 10,000 posts is just a lot. :) But I can't wait to enter/see other contests here.

Ruby3881 wrote on August 12, 2014, 1:24 AM

I've been wondering about the hearts too, Ali! Like you, I tried the "bird beak" + 3. Doesn't seem to work here :(

SandraLynn wrote on August 12, 2014, 6:52 AM

I am going to have to write a tut because folks keep asking and I keep trying to explain in comments and it keeps getting lost, lol. So I'll do that, for sure because you know I love to help. For now though...

To make a heart, colon heart colon no spaces

: heart :

SandraLynn wrote on August 12, 2014, 6:57 AM

You are most welcome :) I also saw you asked to join the "unofficial" group that I run over there ;) "Writer Support". I usually accept folks on Thursdays (we are small and I'm on a schedule to stay organized) or so...SO I'll get there in the next day or sooooo, lol. That group is approved by PP and was started by a previous PP member who no longer writes here. Like I said, not a whole lot goes on in it yet but it's there for support if needed. :)

AliCanary wrote on August 12, 2014, 10:33 AM

Thanks! emoticon

SandraLynn wrote on August 12, 2014, 12:56 PM

YAY :) You are most welcome :)

Scorpie wrote on August 12, 2014, 1:24 PM

How do you make the liver and spleen? emoticon

SandraLynn wrote on August 12, 2014, 1:29 PM

With fava beans and a lovely Chianti? Scorpie ... ;)

Scorpie wrote on August 12, 2014, 1:53 PM

Oh you did not do that really. Nope.

SandraLynn wrote on August 12, 2014, 2:24 PM

I was merely going with the flow, it seemed natural...

FreyaYuki wrote on August 12, 2014, 4:04 PM

I also look at the homepage of the site to find new and interesting articles to read. It's a bit hard now though because you can't see a snippet or short preview of the article so you only have to rely on the title, which may or may not be interesting enough for you to want to click on the article. And if the article title is too long, you can't see the entirety of it either.

BarbRad wrote on August 12, 2014, 4:22 PM

Thanks for explaining. I'm in no hurry since I don't get to FB much anymore.

SandraLynn wrote on August 12, 2014, 4:39 PM

Ooooh, you bring up a good point - Catchy titles are IMPORTANT. I think &AbbyG wrote about that, recently. It is up to us to direct folks to our stuff ;)

PS: This title was wicked long, I know ;)

AliCanary wrote on August 12, 2014, 8:07 PM

Oh, it wasn't 10,000 posts for a person, dear! It was for the whole site. If you look at the URL, you will see that each post is numbered (this one is 10,331--see it in the address bar, right before the article name?). The contest was to see who would get number 10,000 on their article. I've only written 60 posts, myself, so I would say 10,000 is DEFINITELY a lot.

Tuffy06 wrote on August 13, 2014, 2:37 AM

LOL! Thanks for clarifying it. I really thought it was 10,000 articles. Silly me.

SandraLynn wrote on August 13, 2014, 5:00 AM

Occasionally I've given to catchy, possibly tricky, but never ever untruthful; you are right!

FreyaYuki wrote on August 16, 2014, 4:27 PM

:) Yeah, it can be hard to come up with catchy and interesting titles. I don't mind long titles as long as they're interesting and not misleading. I tend to have long titles too.

FreyaYuki wrote on August 16, 2014, 4:29 PM

Yeah, I hate misleading titles too. It is annoying to click on an article based on the title and then you soon find out that the article itself is talking about something else entirely or isn't exactly about whatever the title said it would be about.

Great tips and thank you! I just joined here tonight so am going through some tutorials for awhile.
