The Uglies - Book 1 and 2 by Scott Westerfield Book Review

I read and wrote a review on "The Uglies" by Scott Westerfield and wanted to finally give my review on "The Pretties" and "The Specials." These 2 books are the second and third book in this particular series.

The second book in the Uglies series is called "The Pretties." This book was about Tally, the main character, becoming pretty. She meets this guy, named Zane, and between the two of them they find ways to keep their minds clear about the past. Being pretty has made them pretty much careless and clueless. The procedure they had to make them pretty put a lesion in their brain that makes them that way. This book was probably slightly better than the first book. I was really annoyed with all the verbiage that they use. For the most part, there was always something going on in the book that kept you engaged. I was glad to see some of the Valley high type of words fade as the book continued. Ofcourse, the ending is still depressing.

The third book in the Uglies series is called "The Specials." Tally is now considered an agent in what they call "Special Circumstances." She ends up trying to track down the very people she was trying to protect in the first book. This book was really long and drawn out and Tally's character became very vain and judgmental. It was not a turn in the book I was expecting or enjoyed. I disliked her character. The ending was okay but it felt somewhat abrupt to me.

I've tried to read the 4th book in the series but so far, I can't grasp on to it and enjoy it. It's like a completely different "cast" and that alone bugs me. I can't get into the other additional books in a series if they change the main characters on you.

Overall, I'm giving the 3 books in the series a total of 2.5 out of 5 stars. I'm not sure why this series is so popular to be honest

That is an interesting title lol. I'll have to take a peek at it and see if it is at the library. I usually try to read book from there and if I like it then I will buy it.

From what you said, I don't think this series is for me. I like plots and characters that could really happen in our world, with a touch of humor. I want to like the characters.
