Has the Edit Button on that Other Site Really Disappeared?

I just went to check some of my hundreds of bitly links to posts today to see which are OK and which I needed to edit. Sure enough. I found another that made not much sense without the photo the text refers to. So I went to click the edit button and it was gone. To make sure I wasn't imagining this, I checked a page I had open for a recipe I had published. It's been open on my computer for a few days waiting for me to have time to make the treats. The edit button was still there. I refreshed, and the edit button was gone.

I suppose a lot of 400-character writers who kept fussing about the abuse of said button finally got their wish. Once again, instead of doing something reasonable like reprogramming so that the edited bubbles don't go to the front page and back into notifications, admin just took the edit button away and made it impossible for those of us who have broken bubbles to fix them. I'm hoping this is a temporary measure that will be in place only until they fix the real problem of the edits going to the front page and notifications again.

Please friends. Wake me up and tell me this is a nightmare.

Update: I finally saw the official announcement about this. Support does say that this is temporary and we will be able to edit older posts again. They didn't give any idea of how soon that might happen.

I have just checked my recent posts there and found the Edit button in place. Indeed, I edited a post yesterday without any trouble.

MaeLou wrote on August 6, 2014, 7:54 PM

I think I read that it is just for posts older than a day old, but I don't know if that is true because I haven't checked. I've kinda of gone a Bubblews hiatus with no payments received.

BarbRad wrote on August 6, 2014, 7:56 PM

That was yesterday. Is it still there today?

BarbRad wrote on August 6, 2014, 8:00 PM

We cannot delete our posts without getting negative balance to fix what they broke. These posts were published before the great update. I suppose if you weren't affected and didn't have half your posts ruined that wouldn't matter to you. I also thought it was against the rules to submit a deleted post again, but I hardly know what the rules are anymore. They keep changing them.

BarbRad wrote on August 6, 2014, 8:05 PM

The posts the update broke were all published weeks and months ago and were just about error free when we published them. This will only serve to harm those who published high quality writing with several photos who are now unable to fix what Bubblews broke. All efforts to get an answer about whether they can be deleted without financial penalty have gotten such ambiguous answers they may as well have been unanswered.

indexer wrote on August 6, 2014, 8:07 PM

By yesterday I mean 6th August, given that it is now 1 a.m. on 7th August where I am!

JanetJenson wrote on August 6, 2014, 8:12 PM

BarbRad I haven't had a chance to look at that yet, but being able to update old posts with new information was one of the best things that other site had going for it. When someone left a comment asking a question it was possible to add a new photo illustrating the answer. When we wrote a new bubble with relevance to an older bubble we could go back and add a link to cross reference. It was a useful place to store changing information.

JanetJenson wrote on August 6, 2014, 8:19 PM

&CSMcClellan I am with BarbRad on this. I don't think the people who are detail oriented and not cheating should have the rug yanked out from under them just because someone else is abusing the system. I don't want to have to yank a post and republish it such to make a correction. I want my posts to be living and changing so they never become obsolete. Freedom was the promise. Now we have all these rules that fell down from the sky without warning or explanation.

JanetJenson wrote on August 6, 2014, 8:25 PM

MaeLou I finally did get my payment for the redemption I did over there on July 9 so it was less than a month's wait, so I cannot complain as haven't any missing payments. Usually they have paid much faster. One day's time to edit is better than nothing.

MaeLou wrote on August 6, 2014, 8:37 PM

I'm glad you got paid in a timely manner. My 2 that were already due are past the 30 days.

It is very much there next to likes comments, etc.I just checked. Go check (lol)

allen0187 wrote on August 6, 2014, 9:12 PM

I was there earlier and they did remove the edit button. They wrote a post about it as well. They took an obvious shortcut with this. Not much thought was put into it.

BarbRad wrote on August 6, 2014, 10:39 PM

Was it on a post published in the past 24 hours? Did you check a post from last week to see if it's still there? It's not there for me.

BarbRad wrote on August 6, 2014, 11:31 PM

Which of the many administrators wrote the post? I cannot find this post everyone is referring to. Which is another of my pet peeves. I just read the entire TOS and learning Center and there's not a word about what happens if you delete posts. Yet many people have said when they've done it, Bubblews subtracted earnings from their banks. If they do this, why don't they explain how it works? Is it only the money made since the last redemption that would be on the current redemption? Or is it all the money the post ever earned? When I email to ask, I still get no definite answers to the financial impact of deleting a post.

Ruby3881 wrote on August 7, 2014, 12:14 AM

I have only one post that still has the "edit" link, and it published within the last 8 hours. I'm wondering if they're removing the option because of all the cheating?

AliCanary wrote on August 7, 2014, 12:24 AM

You can edit your text but not the photo. Is that what you mean? I wanted to change some of my pics because some look horrible in the new format, but when I asked, they said we can't currently do that, but they are working on it (this was maybe three weeks ago).

AliCanary wrote on August 7, 2014, 12:26 AM

It's all the money the post ever earned. I've done it, and it sucks.

vserrao1 wrote on August 7, 2014, 12:54 AM

The edit button is still there. I don't have any desire to edit posts on Bubblews anymore.

BarbRad wrote on August 7, 2014, 1:48 AM

That's what I was afraid of.

SandraLynn wrote on August 7, 2014, 5:21 AM

I am biding my time. With all of it. I am not happy. And unfortunately they have messed with my (and a whole slew of others') reputation. We shall see what the next couple of weeks brings.

allen0187 wrote on August 7, 2014, 5:36 AM

The edit button is only available in new posts. Once a posts is over 24 hours, the edit button won't be there anymore. You can only edit new posts but not old ones. The obvious solution would be to remove the glitch that causes edited posts to appear in the front page and notification list. Instead, they remove the edit button.

AliCanary wrote on August 7, 2014, 9:26 AM

Because that, my friend, is how they roll.

FreyaYuki wrote on August 7, 2014, 2:54 PM

I saw that article about the new updates too and also noted that you can't edit older articles anymore. I'm glad that this isn't a permanent thing and I hope that they can let us edit posts again soon because there are people who have a valid and relevant reason for wanting to edit articles. For instance, if they want to update the information or if they spot typographical errors and other such mistakes in their articles, then, of course, they'd want to edit and fix those posts.

Feisty56 wrote on August 7, 2014, 3:50 PM

I am writing this comment after the most recent post from Bubblews staff that now forbids edits on posts more than 24 hours old. Wow! This is how the silly U.S. government works -- they "fix" a problem by making a rule that affects everyone, cheaters and non-cheaters alike.

UmiNoor wrote on August 7, 2014, 10:22 PM

I'm glad you got paid JanetJenson . I redeemed on July 9th too and haven't gotten paid until now. Another Bubblews member also redeemed on the same date and got paid hers a few days ago. I guess I'm going into their no pay list.

UmiNoor wrote on August 7, 2014, 10:26 PM

Whenever a post or comment is deleted, money will be subtracted from your current bank balance and not from the redemption that the post was included. It's not in the TOS but from my own experience. The post that you're looking for was written by BubblewsMemberSupport regarding the missing Edit button. Go search for him and you'll find the post in his profile page.

UmiNoor wrote on August 7, 2014, 10:29 PM

Perhaps they still don't know what programming script to use to prevent edited posts from going back to the Home Page.

UmiNoor wrote on August 7, 2014, 10:37 PM

I've read the post by BubblewsMemberSupport regarding this and it doesn't really affect me because I had deleted all my posts and I have no intention to edit any of my current posts there. But from what I understand, you can still edit your posts within the 24 hours after posting. After that, the only recourse is to delete the post and resubmit it. You may have a substantial reduction in your earnings especially if it's an old post that had accumulated many views internally and externally but that is the best that you can do.

BarbRad wrote on August 8, 2014, 1:58 AM

Here's what I just did. I wrote a note on my profile explaining why some posts look incomplete so that people will know the fault is not mine.

BarbRad wrote on August 8, 2014, 2:00 AM

I just pu ta note on my profile explaining why some of my posts look incomplete. That's about all I can do.

BarbRad wrote on August 8, 2014, 2:12 AM

They say it may come back someday. Meanwhile, I just left a note on my profile explaining all those incomplete posts.

BarbRad wrote on August 8, 2014, 2:14 AM

I guess we are all guilty until proven innocent. I know what you mean. I feel like I'm being treated like a child.

BarbRad wrote on August 8, 2014, 2:16 AM

Of course we have valid and relevant reasons for wanting to edit. Only those us who had those reasons would have edited if they hadn't starting putting edits on the front page and in the notifications. That's when all the cheaters jumped on board and started spamming.

UmiNoor wrote on August 8, 2014, 2:51 AM

Yes, that is a good idea. And I've seen one member put the word Edited in the title of his post so that when others see the title of his post, people can tell that it was an edited or updated version.

SandraLynn wrote on August 8, 2014, 4:08 AM

JanetJenson wrote on August 8, 2014, 1:30 PM

I think that should suffice to preserve your reputation &barbsbooks and Uminoor putting Edited in the title is a really good idea.

JanetJenson wrote on August 9, 2014, 1:28 PM

I think that should suffice to preserve your reputation &barbsbooks and Uminoor putting Edited in the title is a really good idea. BTW it was gone yesterday. I do hope they restore it!

BarbRad wrote on August 9, 2014, 2:24 PM

&JanetJensen I'm BarbRad here, like on Squidoo. I'm barbsbooks at the other place, Twitter, and Facebook.

JanetJenson wrote on August 9, 2014, 7:56 PM

Oh, oh, BarbRad I had two tabs open, with your bubble in the other one. Probaby called you BarbRad over there, then. With &oldroadstraveled signed up and her Guiness here now doing all the cute kitty posts around here I'm tempted to let my cartoon cat Borracho do a few posts.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on August 9, 2014, 8:11 PM

Do you see me patiently holding my breath?

I've stuck with them through all the pre-"upgrade" glitches and issues, but everything after has been nothing but one hit after another. I refuse to delete, and I plan to keep writing there because I need the money, but I doubt I will ever be able to trust them with my highest quality work again. Guiness the Cat can dribble about any kind of minor feline fickleness he wishes and complain about having his ears chopped off, but he's saving all his good stuff for here and his blog. Maybe I'll start writing about Pop Tarts for breakfast.

BarbRad wrote on August 9, 2014, 11:51 PM

Maybe we will join the ranks of the unpaid when they figure this out. But as long as we follow the rules, we should be in compliance.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on August 12, 2014, 1:09 PM

I got so excited yesterday when I did a post and saw the edit button there and was able to fix a small error. I went rushing around, searching for posts about editing to see if the button was really back, and then I remembered that you can still edit the first day. I felt silly--and very, very disappointed--when I checked my older posts and the edit button was still gone. I'd take the old site back, glitches and all, if they'd just give us our old photo options and editing back.

mysticnetty wrote on August 12, 2014, 8:52 PM

I've not noticed that it has disappeared, will take a look though next time I log in

BarbRad wrote on August 12, 2014, 10:00 PM

Same here. But I have all my copies. It won't be so hard to rewrite the intro and use those posts here. That's one way to make them come back, LOL, but I wont' be able to delete from either site them and I'd be in trouble. Better make them bit different from each other.

BarbRad wrote on August 12, 2014, 10:14 PM

If you didn't lose a lot of work during the update, it probably won't matter to you.
